For those who have never visited Vietnam, deciding whether to explore North Vietnam or South Vietnam by motorcycle is a challenging task. Vietnam is a large country with significant differences between its northern and southern regions. The motorbike trip in Northern Vietnam is more enjoyable for the entire crew of the Vietnam Motorbike Tour. And our favorite is the 8-day Northeast Vietnam motorbike tour.
This motorbike trip departs from Hanoi city on a rough but calm dike road along the Red River, providing a fantastic view of the rural communities situated alongside the lush and vast rice fields of the Red River delta. It takes just a little time to reach the countryside. We may attempt some off-road motorbike riding after the dike ride in Doan Hung town, traversing several slopes of green tea farms, palm trees, and rustic Dzao villages. This is a brief but potentially unforgettable off-road motorbike tour in Vietnam. We'll finish the first day's ride about 4:00 p.m., leave the motorcycles with a Dzao family, and take a short boat trip around Thac Ba Lake. In Ngoi Tu village, stay in a beautiful stilt-house among the Dzao people.
We continue our Northeast Vietnam motorbike tour to Ha Giang after bidding our goodbyes to the Dzao locals. The morning cycle follows the Thac Ba lake, passing over a few minor mountain passes and passing through some rustic rural towns. After lunch, we'll drive straight to Ha Giang on a nice route. We will arrive in Ha Giang town about 4:00 p.m., check into the hotel, relax for a little, and then the tour guide will have time to get permission for the upcoming motorbike excursion near the Chinese border.
The highlight of our North Vietnam motorcycle tour is this short Ha Giang motorbike tour. This short motorbike journey from Ha Giang to Dong Van takes you nearly entirely through the twisting passes of the Global Rock plateau, where you can witness the most imposing panorama of the rocky mountain range and the indigenous hill tribes that live in extreme poverty. We may make a pit break at every kilometer to explore small towns or snap breathtaking photos of the countryside. This has to be one of Vietnam's greatest motorbike rides. We'll finish our fun motorbike ride in Dong Van about 5:00 p.m., and check into a hotel in town.
This is another short motorbike trip in North Vietnam; the tour can begin at 9:00 a.m. after a brief visit to the historic village of Dong Van to learn more about Vietnam's history and to uncover the hidden beauty of the little township. At 4:30 p.m., we'll arrive at Bao Lac. Overnight in a motel in the tiny town of Bao Lac. The Ma-Pi-Leng pass is one of the most imposing passes we'll pass over today in North Vietnam. The Happy Road, which connects the rural village to the more contemporary region, is known as the Happy Pass. However, in order to complete the pass, the Vietnamese government will have to invest a significant amount of time, money, and, unfortunately, the lives of the workers.
We continue cycling down the river to Northeast Vietnam after leaving Bao Lac. Because we're riding motorcycles on lower terrain, where the plantation is varied due to different kinds of soil and different water conditions, the ride gives a different perspective of the mountain than the view of the Rock plateau you've seen days before. After lunch at a rustic café in the middle of nowhere, we continue our Northern Vietnam motorbike tour up to Cao Bang, then cross the city to rejoin a peaceful, happy back-road that will take us all the way to the Ban Gioc waterfall in the far north. We'll stay in a guest house or a homestay with the Tay people along the route in Quang Uyen town.
We'll travel to one of Vietnam's most isolated locations, which provides primarily back-road and off-road motorbike rides with stunning mountain views. We'll travel to the Chinese border, where the most magnificent waterfall in the world - the Ban Gioc waterfall – is shared by both Vietnam and China. After a picnic lunch by the waterfall, we'll rest by the river for a while, photographing nature's splendor or swimming in a natural pool beside the waterfall. We'll return to Cao Bang city in the afternoon and end the highlight of our North Vietnam motorcycle tour at a hotel in the city. Enjoy a night in one of North Vietnam's largest cities, which will help you learn more about the Vietnamese people's everyday lives and culture.
It'll be another short motorcycle trip to Ba Be Lake, but it could be one of the most delightful days of our Vietnam motorcycle vacation. We'll only go for a morning ride on virtually smooth roads up and down, then conclude at the Tay people's quiet village, which is located near the Ba Be lake, North Vietnam's largest natural lake. We'll have a short boat excursion around the lake after lunch with the family.
It is the most important day of this North Vietnam motorcycle tour; the motorcycle ride in the morning is still beautiful and interesting, but the second half of the ride in the afternoon must be on busy roads; however, our experienced team will do everything possible to keep the ride safe so that we can return to Hanoi safely at about 4:30 pm.
