The Northern Vietnam motorbike tour was our random choice for a refreshing trip without luxury hotels or restaurants. We set high hopes for new experiences and lessons; fortunately, what we received was even better than expected.
Crew members gathered in the heart of the capital and rode to Phu Yen District on a beautiful autumn morning. Cool breezes and pleasant sunshine blessed our first steps on this motorcycle tour. About 100 km out of the center, the high-rise buildings disappeared and gave way to a clear sky on either view.
Huge mountains formed from ancient geological changes invaded two roadsides while lush green rice fields stretched 50km later. Our team did not stop at crowded sightseeing spots but devoted the first day to the deserted route to the North.
We kicked off our conquest of mountainous roads on the way to Than Uyen. The moderate altitude on the first days was ideal to awaken the enthusiastic riders that have long been sleeping within us.
We passed through the valleys of the Hmong people, which were covered with vast tea hills. The green color never faded in the Northwest mountains when we bumped into the graceful terraced fields in the Muong Tac.
Thai farmers welcomed us with great hospitality and treated us to a hearty lunch. It was unforgettable dining in a simple hut amidst the magnificent surroundings overlooking the vast rice fields. Today's ride is one of the most amazing motorbike tours in Vietnam!
The motorbike tour moved to a higher altitude to reach Sapa, so the excitement of the gigantic mountains filled our souls. From Binh Lu, the sharp turns of Tram Ton Pass posed the first challenge. However, it was a simple test of your driving skills before approaching O Quy Ho.
Located at over 2,000m, O Quy Ho pass served spectacular scenery: the deep abyss on the left and the towering cliffs on the other side. When we reached the top and zoomed out of the space, a section of Tram Ton pass peeked out from behind the clouds.
Our hearts were filled with pride and satisfaction as we completed the two routes winding around the mountain like ropes.
We filled our stomachs to recharge for the 240 km drive to Ha Giang, but our motorbikes first rolled to the Chinese border area in Lao Cai city. Our team stopped at a cafe for a rest and captured the bustling trade activities between the two countries.
We did not expect much from sidewalk eateries. Unexpectedly, the hot cup of coffee brought a burst of taste with the best of two worlds: the bitter and the sweet notes.
Despite the long travel distance, the bustle of traditional villages and weekend markets continued to distract us from our planned schedule. It was not until the street lights shone that we arrived in dreamy Ha Giang.
Thrills and spills were guaranteed by the variety of famous attractions in Dong Van. Our team must speed up to complete the lengthy to-do list.
We visited the rocky plateau first and spent the longest time here. Cat-ear limestone mountains formed strong fences embracing the valley in the middle. In the ”paradise of gray," the leaves of buckwheat flowers soften the rigid and barren vibe.
The vitality of living beings became stronger when we came to Sung La valley. As a honeypot of tourists, the festive atmosphere turned us on. The short distance between attractions such as Heaven's Gate, Vuong's mansion, Pao's house, etc., facilitated us to complete our schedule on time. Today could be the best part for motorbike touring in Vietnam.
We lingered at the homestay to breathe in the fresh air and feel fulfillment in our bones until the sunlight cleared the fog. When the rising sun casted a rosy hue across the morning sky and the golden fingers of sunlight lit up the scene, we headed to Ba Be National Park, 180 km away.
Our focus was distracted by the jaw-dropping sight from the first moments of leaving. The autumn sunlight sparkled the jade-green Nho Que river as if it held hundreds of precious gems in the depths.
The terrain turned into trails after 30 km. Some parts even passed through dense forests, but it deserved our closest approach to wild nature.
We spent almost a full day feeling the unspoiled charm of Ba Be National Park. After many times of tectonics, the terrain decomposed and formed a diversity of landscapes such as natural freshwater lakes, mountains, waterfalls, and a rich cave system.
Puong Cave gave us goosebumps and left an unforgettable impression. We gave our feet a break by boarding on the raft with a skillful companion. Floating on the gentle Nang River, we looked up to discover the vast cave dotted with miraculous stalactites.
Bac Kan was the ultimate addition to our tourist map. We woke up with an overwhelming regret as our exciting journey drew closer to its final moments.
We returned on the motorbikes for the last time and returned to Hanoi even though our hearts did not want to. Kiss goodbye to our free days wandering the mountain roads; it’s time to be back with deadlines and normal stuff! This 8 day motorbike tour north Vietnam is always most picked ride!
Honestly, no beautiful words can fully describe the good things that made our Northern Vietnam motorbike tour. However, to touch your hearts, we have tried to write it down in the most detail and completeness.
