Coming to Vietnam for the first time, we were looking forward to a refreshing experience compared to our previous travels. We surfed the Internet and fell in love with the North Vietnam motorbike tour, which got us close to the remote and mysterious mountains.
Though no words cover all the good things that contributed to our journey, our hands-on story below partially describes the favor of nature for this country.
An amiable guide picked us up at our hotel and took us to the meeting point, where we received our motorbikes and were updated with the necessary traffic laws. We then rode along the Red River out of the capital.
It was the first time we bumped into the countryside by the river. Small boats and ferries filled the water surface near a crowded fishing village. The fishermen seemed to have a bountiful day as their cheerfulness and contentment spread in the air.
At first, there were not many magnificent views on the narrow road, but the peace lifted the pressure off our feet. It was not until the huge rice terraces came into view that the best part happened.
We stopped at the Parasailing site, which served a panorama view of Tu Le valley and Khau Pha pass. Suddenly in our mind, the human presence became so small in front of the immensity of the natural landscapes.
Not long after that, we shortened the distance with Khau Pha. It paved the way to the most dangerous passes in the Northwest on the same day as La Pan Tan and O Quy Ho. On the bright side, our efforts paid off in the dreamy town of Mu Cang Chai and Sapa. Today is one of the highlights north Vietnam motorbike tour.
There was no more effective way to eliminate morning sleepiness than the famous sights that await ahead. Our team traveled on bumpy roads with winding bends to reach the center of Cat Cat village, where three streams intersected.
The same route guided us to two other prosperous Hmong villages. The locals still maintained their idyllic lives and unique traditional values. We could perceive their happiness and satisfaction despite the absence of modern gadgets.
From afar, the hustle and bustle of the Bac Ha market poured ultimate excitement into us. A large space brightened up due to the colorful costumes of the participants.
Through the pictures on the Internet, Ha Giang won our hearts, but the actual sight even gave us goosebumps. One of the most amazing landscapes was the Hoang Su Phi terraced fields during the harvest season. We could not find the end of the "yellow meadow" swaying in the wind.
The winding roads around the mountains to Xin Man brought us back to reality. In the last days of autumn, the bright pink color of the buckwheat flower that covered the hillsides awakened the artist's soul inside us.
We enjoyed a wonderful morning in Ha Giang's cool atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. The struggling route distracted us from the unspoiled landscapes on either side.
A short passage through the forest opened a mysterious exit to fresh waterfalls and a Lung Tam weaving village where our cameras worked at full capacity.
All the riders loaded up with a hearty lunch to prepare for the climb across Vietnam's largest Ma Pi Leng pass. Along the Happy Road, the U-slopes sent chills down our spines. Meanwhile, our adrenaline stirred up for the breathtaking view down to Nho Que river in the fanciful sunset. It could be the best Vietnam motorbike tour today!
We departed early to admire the best charm of the Dong Van - Bao Lac route. The bright sunshine cleared the thick fog and revealed a jaw-dropping scene on the left: limestone mountains dotted with leaves of orchids and peach blossoms embraced the whole valley.
Arriving on the outskirts of Meo Vac, we bumped into the Khau Vai market, which carried trading and dating activities. Not stopping at the busy center of Quang Uyen, we rode straight west to the border area surrounded by limestone mountains interspersed with lush cornfields.
Distance traveled increased significantly, but it was worth every moment of visits to impressive natural attractions. Ban Gioc waterfall deserved our first stop. The clear water flowed through many floors, poured heavily into the large lake bed, and left white foam splashing.
After washing away the mud on our shoes by the stream, our team continued to Nguom Ngao Cave. How could Mother Nature bestow such an outstanding masterpiece? Fancy stalactites reflected fanciful light forming a one-of-a-kind paradise.
Far from the wooden houses in other towns, the traditional craft village made up the unique feature of Bac Son valley: exquisite tile roofs. Today is one of the most scenic motorbike tours in northeast Vietnam.
Instead of National Highway 18, we moved under the direction of an experienced tour guide toward the Khe Ro old forest. The rows of old trees stretched through the core of Yen Tu, famous for spiritual tourism.
Huge shadows blocked out the sunlight and provided our lungs with fresh air. When the sunset fell, we arrived in the bustling city of Ha Long. It seemed long ago when we returned to luxury hotels, delicious seafood meals, and modern living.
It was time to give our bodies a rest. We slept well and started the day with a typical Vietnamese breakfast: Pho and bold coffee. Leaving our motorbikes at the hotel, we walked around the city before boarding the cruise to Halong Bay.
Thousands of rocky islands with mysterious caves created a magical world on the jade-green water. We struggled to decide what to do in this experience. The clean and quiet beach at Ti Top island lured us out of the boat and into the water. Squid fishing doubled the fun of our day.
Sung Sot Cave was the final destination of our motorcycle tour. Setting foot on Bo Hon island, we climbed dozens of stone steps in the middle of the forest to reach the entrance.
Following our footsteps, the vast cave unfolded a "royal garden." In the first compartment, the ceiling was covered with glittering stalactite chandeliers.
The scene transformed into a distinctive vibe in the second pane. Rocks that resembled swords and horse footprints caused the ancient legend of a saint to come to life.
The North Vietnam motorbike tour was a great opportunity to admire the beauty of wild nature and ethnic minority cultural diversity. We will be back for other unique experiences.
Certainly, Vietnam is a destination worthy of high expectations regarding nature, culture, and cuisine. Just get out of your modern city, hit the road, and live your best day with a motorcycle route!
