Motorcycle Tour Ho Chi Minh Trail – 8 Days

Overview

Many motorbike tour operators in Vietnam offer Ho Chi Minh Trail Motorcycle trips, which span over 1000 kilometers and are divided into several sections. We created a few different itineraries on this trail, but this 8-day motorcycle tour Ho Chi Minh trail is the one we highly recommend because it is neither too lengthy nor too quick, it is in the most gorgeous and quiet part of the country, and it especially offers a short journey up to the northern mountainous region where you can see many various issues that you would never see on a longer ride.

Tour Details

Day 1: Hanoi to Phu Yen (distance 160km)

Start the first day about 9 a.m., and make it easier on yourself by starting from the western outskirts of Hanoi, where traffic is less congested. We'll use small country roads to avoid the chaotic local traffic and arrive at the rural area west of Hanoi after an hour's ride. It's time to discover a new Vietnam, complete with the hidden beauty of rural communities.

When we approach closer and higher up to the mountain area in northern Vietnam, the first day motorbike tour in Vietnam becomes more and more delightful in the afternoon.

The first day's ride will conclude at 4:30 p.m. in the quiet hamlet of Phu Yen in the province of Son La. Over-night stay in a hotel

Day 1: Hanoi to Phu Yen (distance 160km)

Day 2: Phu Yen to Mai Chau (distance 150 Km)

This is a simple and enjoyable ride. After leaving town, we will ride along the Da River on winding roads, then up and down through mountain passes until we reach the Moc Chau plateau, where we will stop for lunch before crossing the Hua Tat pass, which is also a very old road built by the French and offers a beautiful view. At 4.30 p.m, we arrived at Mai Chau. Home stay with the Thai ethnic group.

Day 2: Phu Yen to Mai Chau (distance 150 Km)

Day 3: Mai Chau to Tan Ky (distance 290 Km)

Begin your day with a cup of local coffee and a glimpse of the verdant mountains and rice fields from the Thai stilt home. We continue riding along a tiny, magnificent, and paved route along the Ma river until we reach Cam Thuy town, where we stop for lunch after breakfast and bidding our goodbyes to the quiet village of Mai Chau. We'll follow the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail all the way to Tan Ky, where we'll spend the night.

Day 3: Mai Chau to Tan Ky (distance 290 Km)

Day 4: Tan Ky to Phong Nha (distance 280 Km)

Enjoy a simple breakfast prepared by locals before continuing motorcycle touring on the Ho Chi Minh trail. This section of the trail is very smooth, so the ride will be very relaxing. As we get closer to the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park – a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, the scenery will become more and more beautiful. Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park's karst creation dates back to the Paleozoic (around 400 million years ago), making it Asia's oldest major karst region. The park's karst landscape is very complex, with numerous significant geographic characteristics due to tremendous geological upheavals. The huge region, which stretches to the Lao People's Democratic Republic's border, is home to remarkable structures such as 65 kilometers of caverns and subterranean rivers.

We will take a boat excursion down the river to visit limestone caverns if we reach at Phong Nha about 3:30 PM. The boat ride takes around two hours.

Staying in a hotel in Phong Nha for the night.

Day 4: Tan Ky to Phong Nha (distance 280 Km)

Day 5: Phong Nha to Khe Sanh (distance 220 Km)

The Ho Chi Minh Trail splits into two branches from Phong Nha, one on the eastern side and the other on the western side. The western Ho Chi Minh route is recommended by our Vietnam Motorbike Tour. The path passes through the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, and for more than 200 kilometers, there are few other motorcyclists but plenty of spectacular mountain views. We will get the opportunity to see the former US Marine Base with tunnels, the Air Base, and a recently constructed fascinating museum. The western Ho Chi Minh route motorbike ride is without a doubt the trip's highlight.

Day 5: Phong Nha to Khe Sanh (distance 220 Km)

Day 6: Khe Sanh to Vinh Moc and Hue (distance 180 Km)

The majority of motorcycle tours today go from west to east. After breakfast, we'll ride along the 17th parallel, which was formerly the boundary between Vietnam's north and south. We'll make a few stops to see notable historical sites including the Hien Luong Bridge on the Ben Hai River, which serves as the boundary between North and South Vietnam, and the Vinh Moc Tunnel… After lunch, we'll get on Highway 1 and have an adventure motorbike ride through the bustling traffic. At 5 p.m., we will arrive at the lovely city of Hue.

Staying in a hotel in Hue for the night

Day 6: Khe Sanh to Vinh Moc and Hue (distance 180 Km)

Day 7: Explore Hue by Motorbike

After breakfast, take a bus or a motorcycle ride about Hue in the morning to visit some of the city's most famous sights, including the Citadel, iconic temples/pagodas, and a boat ride on the Perfume River. After lunch, you have free time to unwind and select your supper.

Staying in a hotel in Hue for the night. This Hue motorbike tour will bring you a different vibes when travelling to Vietnam.

Day 8: Hue to Hoi An (distance 170 Km)

Day 8: Hue to Hoi An (distance 170 Km)

The final day is the most straightforward. Instead of riding our motorcycles on the congested Highway 1, we'll head to Hue's eastern outskirts for a more pleasurable motorcycle tour along the coast, passing through several fishing towns, coastal roads, and over the famed Hai Van Pass - central Vietnam's most picturesque pass. At around 4 p.m., the Ho Chi Minh trail motorbike tour will come to a close in Hoi An; check into your accommodation and bid farewell to the Vietnam Motorbike Tour crew!

Day 8: Hue to Hoi An (distance 170 Km)
